Every Call of Duty game always releases with at least one small, close-quarters map that generally ends up being iconic to either the series or at least that game.

And while it's unlikely Infinity Ward would ever add the famous Treyarch map, Nuketown, it has slowly added all of its own iconic maps including Modern Warfare Remastered 's Shipment and Modern Warfare 2 's Rust.

That leaves only Modern Warfare 3 to complete the trilogy and round out the reboot. Although not nearly on the same level as Call of Duty: Ghosts , one common complaint about the multiplayer mode for Modern Warfar e is how big a lot of the maps are, which is why there's a common trend with the maps in this list being small to medium-sized maps.

With Warzone and Ground War available, Modern Warfare needs to focus on 6v6 and 2v2 Gunfight if it wants to cater to the needs of all players. Arkaden is one of those maps that was beloved during the MW3 days and deserves another shot in the limelight, plus it would help solve the ongoing issue of Modern Warfare maps being too large. Underground was the first multiplayer map ever shown for Modern Warfare 3 , being featured prominently in the original reveal trailer. Unfinished buildings form most of the landscape, but the most dramatic battles take place in the central building, which can be entered from three separate places.

One of the community's favorite Modern Warfare 3 maps is Mission. The hilly terrain means the entire map feels somewhat unbalanced, with a steep incline on one side, a steep hill on the other, and a massive drop down into the open area for those brave enough to storm straight down the overgrown grass of the middle lane.

The smallest map on Modern Warfare 3 runs parallel to Rust.
